During the Baroque period and onwards, composers began to experiment with different combinations of instruments to explore new textures and sonorities. Cuarteto Casuale is a chamber music formation consisting of oboe, violin, viola and cello, and although there is no specific documented "origin" for this combination of instruments nor is it the most common in ensemble music, the inclusion of the oboe in this formation is closely related to the search for a more diverse and colorful sound. With a particularly distinctive timbre, the oboe and the English horn bring a unique color to the mix, allowing for a rich interaction with the stringed instruments.

Cuarteto Casuale arises from the initiative of four musicians and friends with two objectives. The first of them, the desire to work and develop one's own vision of the main original works composed for this peculiar ensemble, in which the oboe and the English horn displace in a very versatile way one of the violins of the traditional string quartet. The second objective is born from the artistic and professional concern of its members to diversify the chamber repertoire of the formation towards unexplored places, by adapting the main composers to obtain as a result original versions of the quartet itself.

Cuarteto Casuale's full-length performance took place in April 2015 in a natural setting of inexhaustible beauty: the Gruta de las Maravillas de Aracena, in Huelva (Spain). In 2025 the musical group commemorates its tenth anniversary by presenting its first record album, Clasimántico Clasimántico.
